The Decatur County Community Schools board handled routine business items and recognized staff contributions at its meeting.
On unanimous votes the board approved the minutes of April 8, 2026, payment of claims and payroll, a Grade 6 field trip to Kings Island, personnel actions (resignations and multiple hires for the 2026–27 school year), and several fundraisers and donations. The board also declared older reading-series materials and older robotics equipment obsolete so principals can donate or dispose of them.
The board adopted the elementary student handbook for 2026–27 after the presenters noted the cell-phone policy and other items would be revisited; the board approved a teacher-evaluation handbook update primarily described as formatting changes (the transcript records one abstention by "Elizabeth").
Administrators accepted multiple donations for schools including a $2,000 gift to South Decatur Elementary’s Century Garden and various smaller contributions for music, archery and student programs.
Speaker 2 asked the board to recognize Krista Evans, identified in the presentation as the school occupational therapist who initiated and organized a new sensory garden currently in use. "She has provided opportunities for a variety of sensory experiences," the presenter said, and the garden includes tactile items, water and sand and a small bowling area dedicated to Trent Jones. The board acknowledged the extra effort and congratulated staff and volunteers for end-of-year events and activities.
The board set its next meeting for Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the central office and adjourned.
Vote notes: most routine motions were recorded as "motion carries 7 to 0;" the teacher-evaluation handbook vote included an abstention by Elizabeth as noted in the transcript.
