Paulding County assessors approve Freeport exemption, covenant releases and digest changes

The Paulding County Board of Tax Assessors met May 20, 2026, at the Watson Government Complex in Dallas and took unanimous votes on a set of routine property-tax matters, including a Freeport exemption, audit acceptance, covenant releases and digest changes.
Chairman Johnny McBurrows called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Chief Appraiser James Stokes Jr. presented staff recommendations on several items.
The board approved a Freeport exemption for Pure Beauty Farms, Inc., at an exemption rate of 58.33 percent after Member Lydia Rollins moved to accept staff recommendations and Member Gary Spinks seconded. The motion carried with support from all five members present: McBurrows, Amerson, Spinks, Rollins and Griswell.
The board also reviewed and approved a personal-property audit result for Ross Dress for Less (Account P14331). Member Gary Griswell moved to accept the audit findings as presented and Member Gary Spinks seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Members approved the release of multiple conservation covenants on properties listed by staff. The approved releases included parcels under the names Garrett; Merritt; Glazier & Merrill; Neese; Jerkins; Stoughton; McMichen; Wilson; and Meers. Member Lydia Rollins moved to approve the covenant releases and Member Gary Griswell seconded; the board voted in favor.
Vice-Chairman Ben Amerson moved to approve digest change requests submitted by staff, including a real-estate E&R/NOD for Michael Cookson (2025) and personal-property E&R/NODs for Miranda George (2024–2025) and Salts Management, LLC. (DBA McDonalds) (2025). Member Lydia Rollins seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Chairman McBurrows moved to adjourn the meeting; Member Rollins seconded, and the board adjourned following a unanimous vote. Board Secretary Deanna Morrison is listed in the minutes as the recording secretary for the meeting.
The actions taken affect individual property accounts and exemption status and will be reflected in the county’s assessment records and taxpayer notices as applicable.
