Denton County MHMR executive director reports large waitlists and discloses TxAce server attack

DENTON — Executive Director Pam Gutierrez reported operational metrics and a cybersecurity incident to the Denton County MHMR Center Board of Trustees at their April 27 meeting.
Gutierrez said the HCS wait list currently contains 3,427 individuals. Other reported wait lists included 295 on the IDD General Revenue wait list, 197 for Mental Health Adult Services and five for Mental Health Child and Adolescent Services. She also reported that the Center's service targets were at 115% for adults and 112% for children and adolescents.
Gutierrez gave Crisis Residential Unit census numbers (March 2026: 7; April 2026: 8) and announced upcoming events, including a Mental Health & Judicial/Law Enforcement Summit on Sept. 18, 2026 at the Embassy Suites, a Mental Health Proclamation at the County Courthouse on May 5, 2026 and the Annual LOSS event on May 16, 2026 at Harvest House.
On cybersecurity, Gutierrez told trustees that a threat actor successfully attacked the Center's shared TxAce server. She said preliminary investigation found no evidence that protected health information (PHI) was accessed; out of an abundance of caution the Center is partnering with the six TxAce Centers to complete a full forensic investigation and will update the board as additional information becomes available.
Gutierrez also described ongoing outreach to state legislators and staff: she and Trustee Cynthia Jones met with Representative Patterson's chief of staff, Madison White; meetings with Representatives Hayes and Little were scheduled. The minutes note coordinated letters from Denton County mayors are being prepared to support the Center's requests.
