Board approves $11.1 million capital increase tied to Phase 2 commitments

The Joplin Schools Board approved budget adjustments that increase capital project funding by $11,100,000 to support Phase 2 commitments.

Dr. Dickey presented the adjustment and told the board, "This is a big adjustment for our capital expenditures with the phase 2 commitments." He described the revenue side of the adjustment: an increase of roughly $623,000 in interest on temporary deposits, additional state revenue adjustments of about $238,000, an increase tied to higher-than-expected QPK grant enrollment, and a small federal adjustment of about $6,000. He said the revenue adjustments total roughly $633,000 while the fiscal note shows a net decrease of about $10,700,000 driven primarily by capital accounting.

Board members moved and approved the adjustments during the meeting. The transcript records seven 'Yes' responses on the motion. Dr. Dickey told the board he will continue to monitor federal grants and program-specific lines and fielded clarifying questions about career ladder reductions and other line-item movements.
