Board reads resolution recognizing Special Education Week

The Wayne Township Board of Education read a resolution at its May 21 meeting recognizing May 10–16, 2026 as Special Education Week in New Jersey and thanking staff, families and students who support special education programs.

The resolution, introduced by board member Mr. Aquin, praised teachers, related service providers, nurses, counselors and support staff for their work with students who have individualized education programs (IEPs). It said the district "remains committed to supporting inclusive practices, appropriate programs, strong communication, and continued collaboration among students, families, staff, and the community." Mr. Aquin read the text of the measure to the assembled board and public.

Board members and speakers used the reading to highlight the scale of special education services in the state and district. In the reading, the resolution noted that more than 240,000 children in New Jersey are classified under special education with an IEP and called for ensuring access to "meaningful educational opportunities" for every student.

The reading was presented as a formal recognition and was followed by brief remarks of appreciation from the board. The transcript does not record a separate roll-call vote adopting the resolution; the item was read and acknowledged during the recognitions portion of the meeting.

The board will continue regular oversight of special education programs as part of its ongoing agenda and superintendent reports.
