At the start of the meeting the board interviewed Cole Abbott, who stated he is seeking the code enforcement officer position. Abbott said he has a two‑year degree in construction management from Alford State, four years’ experience in home remodeling, recent highway department work and volunteer experience as a firefighter. He acknowledged he does not currently hold state code enforcement certifications but said he planned to pursue training if hired.
Board members highlighted a procedural ambiguity: the posting and advertising used a civil‑service title that may have required department‑head qualifications. Members reviewed the interview policy that requires at least two board members and the administrative assistant to conduct interviews for department‑head positions. Several members said only one of the three applicants on file appears to meet the qualification criteria; they agreed the interview committee should review applications, conduct interviews between now and the next board meeting, and present a recommendation to the full board.
The chair asked Jody (administrative assistant) to coordinate times. The board did not make a hiring decision at this meeting.
Next steps: the interview committee will meet, complete interviews, and return a recommendation and supporting materials to the full board for a future action.
