Forensic center nearing completion; county reports contingency returns and schedule

The county—s facilities director reported the regional forensic center site work is about 90% complete and interior mechanical, plumbing and electrical rough-in is roughly 95% complete. Storefront glazing and exterior wall panels are near completion, and the roof tie-ins and masonry work are finished. The director said there are no open change orders and that contractor and county teams expect to request substantial completion in October and finish work by late November.
Staff reported that RC Matthews will return approximately $765,774 in construction contingency and buyout savings to the county, including $352,106 in construction contingency, $13,668 in design contingency and $400,000 in buyout return; they also anticipate an additional buyout return to be determined in July. Tariff reimbursements imposed on certain materials were identified and staff said vendors were working to return roughly $40,000 to contingency.
Inspectors and contractors will complete electrical and mechanical inspections in the near term, and the next OAC (Owner—s Advisory Committee) meeting is scheduled for June 9. Commissioners and staff praised project management and oversight and confirmed the contingency update would be reflected in the county—s capital accounting.
