The Board of Trustees approved two ordinances on second reading Tuesday that update the town's building- and fire-code references.
Ordinance 1365 amends Chapter 11 of the municipal code to adopt the 2024 International Building Code, 2024 International Residential Code, the 2024 International Existing Building Code, the 2024 International Energy Code, the 2023 National Electrical Code, the 2024 International Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas codes and other referenced standards, with local amendments. Trustees noted receipt of input from the Homebuilders Association of Northern Colorado; staff and the building official said that the association's letter did not propose changes that would block adoption.
Ordinance 1366 adopts the 2024 International Fire Code as amended by the Berthoud Fire Protection District. Staff said the fire district will bring clarifying language to its board on Dec. 9 to address a concern raised by the Homebuilders Association and staff expects to return with a brief follow-up ordinance in January to reflect any clarifications.
Both ordinances were approved by roll-call votes.
Next steps: staff will file the adopted ordinances and coordinate any follow-up clarifying ordinance regarding the fire code early next year following the fire district's Dec. 9 review.
