The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors voted 5‑0 on March 26 to authorize advertisement of the township’s 2025 liquid fuels road program and to open bids before the next meeting.
Township engineer Ms. Calabrese described the base bid, which includes Poppy Court, a portion of South State Street, Wexley Drive, Cliveden Drive, Meridian Circle, High Street and Willow Court, totaling about 1.6 miles. A set of alternate bids covers roughly another 3.5 miles of streets; alternates give the township flexibility to select streets based on bid pricing and budget.
Supervisors asked procedural questions about how alternates are selected and whether ARPA funds had been used in prior paving cycles; Ms. Calabrese said alternates function like an à la carte menu and that ARPA funds were used last year. The board heard that cost estimates and a concept plan for Newtown‑Yardley Road sidewalks and related drainage and ADA curb‑ramp work are in preparation.
A motion to authorize advertisement was made, seconded and approved unanimously. The board instructed staff to open bids and return recommended awards at a future meeting after evaluating pricing and priorities.
No contract awards were made that evening; action authorized the bidding and procurement process.
