The Townsend Select Board on May 5 approved a slate of volunteer appointments and reviewed the town’s process for filling committee vacancies.
Sarah Logan moved to appoint Donna Howard as transportation coordinator for the senior center, a position set to start May 19, 2026 contingent on completion of employment requirements; Laura Shiffren seconded. The board recorded affirmative roll-call responses and the appointment will proceed.
The board also approved the appointment of Jane O'Hara to the Democratic Party seat on the board of registrars (term April 1, 2026–March 31, 2029). Sarah Logan moved the appointment and Laura Shiffren seconded; the motion passed by roll call.
Sarah Logan moved to appoint a resident identified in the record as Natalie as a full member of the zoning board of appeals (effective May 5, 2026, term to June 30, 2030) and later moved to appoint Abigail Farley to the zoning board (term to June 30, 2028). Both motions were seconded by Laura Shiffren and passed on roll-call votes.
Board members described the volunteer appointment workflow: applicants appear in the meeting packet for initial review and are then formally appointed in a subsequent meeting after required checks and paperwork. Sabrina (staff) was identified as the person who tracks volunteer response forms and appointment timing.
The board framed the new appointees as contributors to standing panels the town relies on for everyday governance and noted appreciation for residents who volunteer. The appointments will be documented in scanned minutes and posted online as part of routine meeting records.
