Starr County commissioners on May 26 approved a proclamation recognizing June as World's Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
The proclamation was presented by No Rodriguez, who identified herself as a faith-based community engagement specialist for Adult Protective Services, and by Nalia Can, identified as an adult protective specialist investigator support. The proclamation text cited outreach and education work in Starr County and stated that abuse against older adults and people with disabilities is "a community concern affecting thousands of people across Texas," noting a figure used in the proclamation that more than 125,382 older adults and people with disabilities in Texas were affected in 2025.
No Rodriguez described the county's outreach efforts, saying the office has done education presentations at daycares and participated in local events, including a recent regional mental-health awareness event. "Elder abuse is everyone's business," she said, urging continued education and reporting.
The court moved, seconded and approved the proclamation; the commissioners paused for a photograph with presenters after the approval. The proclamation directs the county to support awareness and prevention activities in June.
