The Select Board voted on June 3 to approve an amendment extending Winchester's solid-waste disposal contract with WinWaste Innovations through June 30, 2028. Staff said WinWaste offered the most cost-effective option after outreach to multiple vendors and that the proposed amendment holds FY24 rates for FY25 while implementing reasonable escalators through FY28; staff estimated approximately $25,000 in savings relative to prior budgeting assumptions.
Beth (town manager) and DPW staff reported that the recommended extension reduces wait times at the transfer station and avoids operational overtime costs associated with longer vendor queues. The board voted to authorize the town manager to execute the amended contract. Staff also noted a one-year recycling contract with Republic will hold FY24 recycling rates into FY25.
