Committee discusses new AEDs, MyRec scheduling and fee reclassification for some user groups

Joe Maney, presenting on field matters, told the Recreation Committee that the recent Fields Committee meeting included Healthy Lynnfield and the health department and addressed drinking at field sites and safety equipment needs. He said the committee plans new automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) as permanent installations at Jordan Park and Meadow Sung, with portable units to be made available for user groups.

Maney warned that nonresident participation could change groups’ fee category. "Their category might change from a 'Lynnfield‑based group' to a higher fee category if they do not maintain more than 50% resident participation," Maney said. He also said Youth Soccer has been challenged by visiting teams drinking in the high school parking lot.
On logistics, user groups must submit permanent field applications by the end of the month for time allocation. Mike Nester, Assistant Superintendent for Public Works, will coordinate maintenance; Nester will also create a spreadsheet to track custodian payments and locations. The committee agreed to expand usage of MyRec for scheduling and cancellations to help volunteers and DPW coordinate maintenance, and Joe Maney said he may meet separately with Michael Cuddy to finalize integrating a new contract into the application process.
Next steps: staff will enforce the resident‑participation threshold when assigning categories, finalize the AED procurement plan, implement broader MyRec usage for scheduling, and report back on permit approvals and maintenance tracking.
