Mashpee outlines stormwater program, three retrofits that will boost nutrient reductions

Belfett summarized the six minimum control measures required by the permit and noted that Mashpee is tracking nutrient reductions townwide even where the state only requires tracking in specific watersheds.
The presentation described three retrofit projects:
- Mashpee Wakeby State Boat Ramp: near completion; project adds a 30‑space repaved parking area, underground infiltration chambers and bioretention areas to treat runoff from the ramp and parking.
- Santuet Pond (Santuet) Landing: a $1.7 million project designed to reduce phosphorus loading, add a concrete ramp moved away from the pond edge, porous parking, stormwater treatment features, kayak launches and a seasonal dock; project near completion.
- Adequin Park: in final design, permitting this summer, construction after Labor Day; preliminary construction estimate about $800,000 (excluding administration).
Belfett said the two near‑complete projects will meaningfully increase the town’s phosphorus‑reduction accounting. "With these two projects, we'll be bringing up those nutrient reductions by a good 20% of the town's amount," she said. Staff asked the board and public for feedback on priorities for the next set of projects and described operations and maintenance plans for treatment systems.
