Onslow libraries launch dinosaur-themed summer-reading program with prizes and kickoff event

Jennifer Randall, Youth Services at the Onslow County Public Library, described this year’s summer-reading theme as "Unearth a Story," a dinosaur-themed program across all four branches. The library will hold a kickoff and storytelling festival on June 13 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the main Jacksonville branch.
Randall explained the scoring and prize structure: children earn one point per minute read and adults earn 100 points per book, with a 1,000-point goal by July 31 to qualify for prize drawings. She said school-age children who reach the goal can win donated bicycles and adults can win a Kindle Paperwhite; sponsors include Carolina Heating and Air and Fuzzy Peach.
The library asked patrons not to bring physical library books to the beach to avoid sand and water damage and pointed listeners to digital options (Hoopla and Libby) for e-books and audiobooks. Randall directed the public to the library’s web and social pages and listed branch locations for local pickup and programs.
