Pike County backs Judicial Compensation Act option, authorizes locality pay resolution

Pike County commissioners on Oct. 28 voted to support the Griffin Judicial Circuit’s option under the 2025 Judicial Compensation Act and to authorize the chairman to sign a resolution backing locality pay.
Judge Coker, representing Chief Judge Ballard and other circuit judges, explained that the state law phases out county supplements to superior court judges and allows counties to adopt locality pay of up to 10% of base salary. He and county staff said the change would reduce counties’ supplemental contributions (from current supplements described to county officials) and that the fiscal 2026 budget already contains the necessary allocation for this year.
"This will immediately result in a decrease in what the counties have to allocate to the judge's supplement," the presenter said, urging support for the resolution transmitted from the chief judge.
Commissioners also approved a related request to provide a 6.25% cost‑of‑living raise for circuit employees, with staff advising that projected savings from the locality pay and current budget allocations would cover that increase for fiscal 2026.
Both items were approved by motion, second and voice/show‑of‑hands vote with no opposition recorded.
