Wright County supervisors debate economic-development spending; resolution fails, several routine items approved

Aaron Budweight, the county economic development director, asked whether authority to act should rest with the board of supervisors or the county's Economic Development Commission.
Supervisor Ellis argued supervisors are fiduciaries for property tax dollars and said the board must be fiscally responsible; a motion by Ellis (seconded as recorded) to approve Resolution 2026-17 to distinguish use of general basic, general supplemental and marketing funds failed for lack of a majority. The minutes record that the motion "dies for lack of majority vote" and that the board will hold a work session with the Economic Development Commission for further clarification.
