Council hears $5 million award under HB 2015 and approves work sessions on fees and levies

County staff updated the Clark County Council on legislative follow-up and a grant award under House Bill 2015 during the June 3 meeting.
Policy analyst Jordan Bogie said the county had applied for $9.8 million to support hiring entry-level officers, co-response teams and training, but that the state is capping large-jurisdiction awards at $5 million. "We went big... it sounds like we are gonna get that full $5,000,000," Bogie said, adding that future grant rounds might provide additional funding.
Councilors thanked staff for the effort to secure funding. The council then moved through several administrative and planning items: approving minutes for May 13 and May 20 by voice vote, preliminary agreement to schedule a work session to update the sheriff's civil service fee schedule (fees unchanged since 2017), and a work session on subordinate levies (mental health, veterans, developmental disabilities) to assess budget impacts and options to keep levies within or outside the general fund.
Councilors also asked staff to invite the Clark County Youth Commission to present a 20–30-minute overview of its work at a future meeting; the council agreed to place that on a forthcoming agenda with the normal notice.
