Woolwich introduces firefighter position, sets $52,000–$60,000 salary range

Woolwich Township’s governing committee on Feb. 17 unanimously introduced an ordinance to create a firefighter position and a companion amendment to the salary ordinance that sets the pay range at $52,000 to $60,000.

Mayor Matthias summarized that the position description was compiled using guidance from comparable municipalities and civil service descriptions, and the township’s Fire Chief confirmed his review and approval of the position description. Deputy Mayor Nocentino moved and Committeewoman Williams seconded the introductions; both measures passed on roll call vote.

Committeeman Frederick requested a comparative salary analysis before final adoption, saying the committee should review benchmarks prior to moving to final passage. The committee did not change the introduced range, which Matthias and staff said aligns with surrounding towns and federal grant program guidelines that will inform hiring and potential grant eligibility.

The ordinances were introduced for further consideration; final adoption will be scheduled in subsequent meetings consistent with statutory notice and local procedures.
