Town Steering Committee recommends three appointments, notes vacancies

The committee voted to recommend that Robert Jennison be appointed to the Conservation Commission for a term expiring Jan. 1, 2027. Matthew Kyer moved the recommendation and Mark Wheaton seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Lisa Thomas suggested staff consider Jennison for the town's new School Building Committee because of his construction experience and local ties.
The committee also recommended Kathleen Krider to serve as the alternate member on the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) Regional Planning Commission through Dec. 31, 2026; Mark Wheaton moved the recommendation and Matthew Kyer seconded. Thomas noted that the alternate must be a member of Planning and Zoning.
Finally, the committee recommended Patrick Kilby for a two‑year Special Constable appointment beginning July 1, 2026. The committee heard that Officer Kilby serves as the Marine Patrol Officer and issues citations requiring the Special Constable appointment for certain custody or arrest authorities. The motion to recommend Kilby was made by Matthew Kyer and seconded by Mark Wheaton and passed unanimously.
The committee also reviewed the vacancy report and noted a still‑open non‑voting CT Landmarks representative seat on the Ad‑Hoc Farmers Market Operating Committee; staff will continue outreach to fill vacancies.
