Public Works Director Adam Thornton (introduced at the meeting) explained the tool provides an objective inventory — including sidewalks and street signs — and will be integrated into the city’s GIS to coordinate road restoration with subterranean utility schedules.
Commissioners asked about procurement and whether an RFP had been issued; staff said the contract was procured via a piggyback provision and that the five‑year figure covers software access and data updates. The commission approved the resolution by voice vote after discussion about how the software would be used annually and its role aligning pavement projects with utility replacement needs.
Staff will schedule scans, integrate results with GIS, and return with a recommended resurfacing plan that aligns road work with planned utility projects.
