Apache Junction council continues two rezoning/development hearings to later dates after brief public comment

The Apache Junction City Council on June 2 voted unanimously to continue two separate land-use hearings to give applicants time to address design and notification issues.

Nick Letoric, principal planner, presented a continuance request for P-26-4-PZ, a proposed plan development of about 6.7 acres at the southeast corner of Renick and Virginia by Banyan Residential. Letoric said the applicant needs additional time to revise parking ratios and site design; the applicant requested the council continue the public hearing to July 21, 2026. A nearby resident spoke during public comment opposing more low-income apartments on that side of town. After public comment, the council closed the hearing and approved the continuance unanimously.

Hudson Meyer, associate planner, then requested a continuance for P-26-6-PZ, a rezoning application for roughly 1.25 gross acres at 275 South Cactus Road, to meet public-notification requirements. The applicant asked that the city move the hearing to June 16, 2026. Kimberly Bergman, who identified herself as part of that case, told the council she intended to provide additional clarifications at the next meeting. The council unanimously approved the continuance.

Both continuances were described by staff as procedural requests to allow applicants to address specific checklist items and required public-notice steps; no formal approvals or denials of the underlying proposals were made at the June 2 meeting.

What’s next: Both cases will return to public hearing on the dates the council approved for continuation.
