Algonac council approves $175,900 pool pay application, flags additional budget need

Mrs. Christoper presented the pay application and said architect George Hartman had reviewed completion percentages and the billing period covered in the submission. Council members discussed the project schedule; Christoper cautioned that a best-case opening could be Memorial Day and a later completion was also possible.
The city budgeted $1 million for construction in fiscal year 2023–24, Mrs. Christoper said. Council was told the project will receive state funds (the transcript references two state grants totaling $700,000 in the packet materials), but the city still needs to budget an additional $224,300 for fiscal year 2024–25 to cover remaining costs.
Councilmember comments were supportive of the contractor’s visible progress. The motion to approve the pay application was adopted by roll call.
The council did not set a firm opening date; staff will continue to update the council on construction progress and schedule adjustments.
