DDA representative urges support for summer programming as council approves events

Greg Worpel, speaking for the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority, used the meeting’s public‑comment period to urge continued support for downtown businesses and to outline summer programming.
Worpel said the farmers market runs Wednesdays (3–6 p.m.) and Saturdays (9 a.m.–noon) and praised a strong turnout. He highlighted a nine‑week music series (Lunch on Ludington), youth art collaborations with the Boniface Art Center, a returning pop‑up market on Thursday nights (4–8 p.m.), Second Friday night jams, and a harmonica ensemble and harmonica‑band appearance. Worpel also noted the Escanaba Log Jam Music Festival will occur on June 27 at a different location because of construction.
During the consent‑action portion of the meeting the council approved a Labor Day parade and beer tent (Sept. 7) and a street‑closure request for an Elks picnic (Aug. 1), both of which staff said will follow applicable permit rules. Worpel encouraged residents to patronize local businesses and attend the events.
