The Custer County Board of Supervisors accepted an interlocal agreement with the City of Broken Bow on May 26 that revises cost-sharing for the county communications operation and adds greater oversight between the two governments.
Under the terms announced at the meeting, the City of Broken Bow’s cost percentage for the communications operation will drop from 45% to 35% for the 2027–2028 budget cycle. The agreement includes a provision requiring City Council approval if the county requests a budgetary increase of more than 3 percent. The motion to accept the agreement was made by Govier and seconded by Parliament; the roll-call vote was recorded as unanimous.
County officials described the change as an update to longstanding language; the agreement also creates a new advisory and oversight effort between the county and the city. The change takes effect for the 2027–2028 budget year.
The board took no related budget appropriation action at the meeting; implementation and any required council action in Broken Bow are next steps.
