The Moorhead Economic Development Authority voted June 1 to brand the downtown redevelopment area identified in the Downtown Master Plan as the "Loop District" for marketing and communications.
Lisa Bodie, who briefed the authority on naming options and visual concepts, said staff proposed adopting the "Loop District" identity to build on the library and community‑center 'Loop' brand. "So, that is kind of the initial visual brand that we are suggesting for the downtown redevelopment district proposed to be named the Loop District," Bodie told the board.
A motion to name and brand the district was moved (recorded in the meeting transcript as "Shelfeldt"), seconded by Anderson and carried by voice vote. The staff recommendation covers the area shown in the downtown master plan—roughly the master‑plan area from the river to A Street between First Avenue and the railroad tracks, per the presentation.
Why it matters: Staff said the name will be used for signage, electronic marketing and other communications as the city advances block‑by‑block redevelopment, parking and financing strategies tied to a TIF district. Bodie said staff will return later this year with proposed design guidelines and a framework for a downtown development district to provide more detailed policy direction.
The EDA recorded no other formal actions on branding at the meeting beyond adopting the name and asking staff to continue work on design and implementation details.
