County infrastructure update: rooftop unit delay could push completion into October

Atascosa County's infrastructure project update on June 8 noted steady progress on a county building but warned a major rooftop unit (RTU) delay could push final completion to October.

Project manager Curtis Vickers told the court that the large RTU for the building's rear portion, previously expected in late June or early July, is now scheduled to ship from Canada on Aug. 31. "That's going to push us back potentially into October to complete," Vickers said, explaining that a climate-controlled environment is required to finish flooring, painting and other interior work in the back half of the building.

Vickers said crews will continue work on the front half of the project and attempt to pressure the vendor for an earlier shipment, but that supply-chain issues and component shortages limit options. He also reported that a new door for the records storage facility was installed and is ready for a card-reader installation, which will allow single-door entry and enhanced security controls.

Why it matters: The RTU delay affects the building's substantial completion timeline and could change occupancy and cost timelines for the county. The installed record-room door is a near-term security improvement but requires vendor coordination for the card reader.

Next steps: Project staff will continue front-half work, seek earlier delivery of the RTU if possible, coordinate the card-reader installation with IT and bring future updates to the court.
