Atascosa County approves summer internship program with Workforce Solutions Alamo

Atascosa County Commissioner's Court on June 8 approved funding for eight county-sponsored summer interns as part of a 14-intern program run in partnership with Workforce Solutions Alamo.

Kayla Forner, HR, introduced the county's internship program and read the names of the eight county-paid interns, noting start date June 8 and end date July 17, 2026. Gabriela Horbeck, project director for the youth program with Workforce Solutions, said the partner organization screens applicants and places eligible youth in internships; Workforce Solutions and the county each pay $15 per hour for their sponsored interns. Sandra Alvarez, assistant director of workforce services with Workforce Solutions Alamo, described the internship's advantage of allowing rotations through multiple departments so youth can try different roles.

The court voted to approve the eight county-sponsored interns. Commissioner Bowen moved the approval and Commissioner Pavvel seconded the motion, which carried by a show of hands.
