Hooper City Council approved updates to the city’s fee schedule on June 4 that include utility-rate increases and other revised charges. Treasurer Cammy Moss told the council updated fee items were highlighted in the packet; council members discussed outreach and notice plans to ensure residents are informed.
The council voted to make the utility-rate changes effective July 1 so they appear on July invoices. Council also approved an exception for cemetery-plot purchase pricing, keeping the current resident plot price in effect until Oct. 1, 2026, to give families advance notice and the opportunity to purchase at the existing rate.
Council members discussed notice methods that include a newsletter and a postcard mailer; staff said postcards are planned and will be printed the following week so residents receive notice before new rates are implemented. Council also discussed veterans’ and infant burial‑fee waivers included in the revised schedule.
The fee-schedule motion passed; the transcript records Council Member Fowers opposing that motion while other voting members approved it. Council asked staff to proceed with the planned notices and to ensure the cemetery timing and scope (resident plots only) are clear in outreach materials.
