Banks High students launch Science Field Club, plan monthly trips and student-run website

Noah, a junior and founder of the Banks Science Field Club, presented the club's purpose and accomplishments during the June 8 board meeting.
Noah said the club had more than 30 active members this spring and completed three field trips after launching in March. He described club organization (trip teams with roles such as note taker, photographer and presentation creator), a student-built website with schedules and photo galleries (bankscienceclub.org), and plans for 8'9 trips next year. Club activities also included a zoo trip, an outdoor hike with fungi identification and plans to visit sea lion caves and aquariums; students currently pay out of pocket (about $12 per trip this year), and leaders said they will pursue grants and fundraising to reduce that cost.
Board members praised the student initiative and encouraged staff to help the club pursue free museum entry or discounts and to circulate the club's website link to families.
