Wellington council approves multiple development measures, tables Project Tango resolution

At its March 10 meeting, the Wellington council approved conditional-use and CDD measures for Wellington Village/KPark, adopted a water-supply work plan and a set of development ordinances for Artistry Lakes, and tabled a proposed resolution on Project Tango for further wording and review.
The Village of Wellington council took a series of votes on March 10 that together advance several large development projects and adopt required planning documents. Highlights of the evening's actions include:
- KPark / Wellington Village approvals: Council unanimously approved Resolution R2026-08 (conditional use for increased building heights in Wellington Village/KPark, including a hotel at 86 feet and other buildings above 35 feet) and adopted Ordinance 2026-09 establishing the Village Landing Community Development District. Staff said the project meets supplemental standards (setbacks, landscaping and design criteria) and will provide community benefits such as EV charging and privately maintained public amenities.
- Water-supply work plan: Ordinance 2026-01, Wellington's 10-year Water Supply Facilities Work Plan required by state statute, passed second reading 5-0 after a brief public hearing.
- Artistry Lakes package: (See separate article.) The council approved annexation, comp-plan and rezoning ordinances and the PUD master plan, and accepted a $1,000,000 developer contribution in lieu of on-site workforce housing; staff will return with allocation options for council action.
- Project Tango: Council debated draft resolution language opposing Project Tango (a proposed hyperscale AI/data center) and asked staff to narrow and clarify the draft to refer specifically to the local proposal and to remove broader or speculative technical claims. The council voted to table the resolution to the next meeting so staff and interested specialists can provide edited language for county consideration.
