Hamblen County Schools recognized; summer programs and student athletes highlighted

Superintendent Arnold Bunch opened the June 9 meeting with school highlights, announcing the district had been recognized as a "district of distinction" by a national organization (transcript: "National Data Club") in recognition of academic work and leadership development across schools.
Bunch and others recognized Miss Mills as the state's Special Olympics Coach of the Year and called up multiple student-athletes from Morristown-area high schools who finished in the top eight at the state track meet, including named athletes celebrated for individual places and a 4x100 relay team. Board members applauded the students and coaches.
Bunch also briefed the board on summer learning and a district bulk feeding program: staff prepared 1,900 bags in one week (noted in the meeting as over 13,000 meals) and expected to distribute roughly 15,000 meals that night across three pickup sites; some sites ran out quickly, and the district is exploring ways to expand freezer/refrigeration capacity and partner with local vendors for milk delivery.
Board members congratulated staff and students and moved on to business items.
