Walla Walla County commissioners approve payroll, vouchers and hire exception

Walla Walla County commissioners voted unanimously on April 27 to approve routine payroll action forms and county vouchers, and to grant a hiring‑freeze exception so the corrections department may replace an officer who resigned to take a position in Benton County.
Chairman Kimbell confirmed the board had reviewed the payroll action forms and placed them on the consent agenda. A motion to approve payroll and related forms was made, seconded and approved by voice vote without discussion.
When the board considered a hiring‑freeze exception for the corrections department, the department manager said the county was losing “one of our female officers” who had been employed about two years and had accepted a job with Benton County. The manager said the other employer’s pay was higher after academy completion and that the requested hiring‑freeze exception was for a direct replacement. Commissioners approved the exception unanimously.
Commissioners also voted to approve county vouchers, warrants and electronic payments after reporting they had reviewed the materials and had no questions. All three formal votes recorded were unanimous (3–0).
The board recessed for the noon break and planned to reconvene at 1:25 p.m.
