County staff seek change to water code to ease timing for Group B water systems

Cox said the current two‑year timeline for completing a Group B public water system and applying for residential building permits can be unrealistic and creates an additional permitting burden for applicants who are actively pursuing development. The proposed revision (provided to the board as an exhibit to the staff report) would alter a single sentence in the relevant code chapter to change the timing requirement and allow the county water bank to be available to applicants pursuing development in a way that better aligns with actual project schedules.
Cox asked for direction to continue working with Public Health and to schedule a joint Board of Health and Board of County Commissioners public hearing. Commissioners agreed and asked staff to return with next steps.
