Commissioners appoint advisory‑board members, adopt Juneteenth and Pride proclamations

Kitsap County commissioners on June 8 appointed several residents to advisory bodies and adopted two ceremonial resolutions.
Appointments: The board approved a motion to appoint Chris Brown to the Parks Advisory Board to complete a term through Dec. 31, 2028. The board also appointed Miles Paden (South Kitsap High School, FFA) and Kylie Denton (North Kitsap Online Academy, 4‑H/FFA) to the newly formed Agriculture Advisory Council, and approved James Matthew Brewster to the Council for Human Rights for a three‑year term ending Dec. 31, 2029. The appointees offered short remarks and the board welcomed them.
Proclamations and events: Kimberly Williams, Kitsap County DEI manager, read and the board adopted a proclamation commemorating Juneteenth National Freedom Day in Kitsap County; Williams and festival representatives encouraged attendance at the Juneteenth People’s March and Freedom Festival on Saturday, June 13 at Evergreen Rotary Park in Bremerton. The board also adopted a resolution commemorating Pride Month and noted a local Pride festival scheduled for Saturday, July 18 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.
Consent agenda: Commissioners corrected a scrivener’s error to add item 7d to consent and then approved the consent agenda by voice vote.
The meeting then proceeded to a lengthy public hearing on a proposed Boundary Line Adjustment ordinance (see separate coverage).
