SAN ANGELO ISD reports lower utility costs after energy program changes

District energy specialists told trustees that overall daily utilities costs across campuses are down about 12.4% compared with recent years and that electric usage is down roughly 10.4%, despite an increase of about 85,000 square feet of space in the district. Presenters attributed the improvement to schedule standardization, staggered equipment start times to avoid peak-demand charges, and replacement of old controllers with smart thermostats offering per-unit control and better diagnostics.
The team said in-house staffing (retaining district specialists formerly contracted through an outside provider) and targeted equipment replacements are delivering savings and that additional efficiency gains are expected as new equipment is installed and older controllers are retired.
Board members thanked the staff for the savings and asked about monitoring and future controls; presenters said new modules will improve visibility into application usage and device-level performance.
