An inclusivity committee member told the council the committee made “fairly minimal” changes to clause order and wording and recommended rephrasing line 27 to read, “and violence still threatens the health, safety, and resilience of our community.” The committee also consolidated language referencing the murder of George Floyd and affirmations of Black Lives Matter into a single clause rather than concluding the whereas section with an affirmation of principles.
Councillor Andrade moved to approve Resolution 26‑14 “as amended”; Councillor Salsa seconded the motion. After a brief expression of thanks to the committee and no additional discussion, the council voted in favor. The council chair announced the resolution was adopted unanimously.
The proclamation will be filed as adopted; committee members said they intend to follow up at future committee meetings on whether additional editorial or structural changes to resolution language (for example, breaking a long first whereas into multiple sentences) are warranted.
