Board approves handicap-loading stall at 159 E. Silver Spring Drive

The Whitefish Bay Village Board voted March 3 to amend the official parking map and designate a handicap-loading stall at 159 E. Silver Spring Drive.
Staff said Lizzie Conrath of the Wellness Collective requested the change after meter spaces were causing clients with limited mobility to double-park or be carried from farther away. "She's in the Wellness Collective and her business has a lot of clients that need the accessibility," staff said when summarizing the request.
Trustees discussed whether the space should be a handicap stall or a loading zone that could convert to regular parking during evening hours, and whether adjacent businesses had been consulted. Staff cited a previous parking study and sight-line constraints that reduced four available spots to three at the location.
One trustee voiced concern the stall could be underutilized during parts of the day; the board directed staff to contact nearby tenants about hours and to consider uniform handling of similar spots elsewhere on Silver Spring Drive. The board then moved and approved the map amendment by voice vote.
Staff estimated revenue lost from removing a single meter would be minimal.
