Atchison County commissioners voted to approve a consulting-services contract with engineering firm Schwab Eaton for the next phase of Ottawa Road rehabilitation on June 9.
Commissioner Quinn introduced the request and said the engineering services are for a maximum fee of $95,000 for Phase 3 (from the 230th and Lee Roads intersection north to 246th, where Phase 2 work has been completed). Commissioner Calhoun moved to approve the contract, a motion was seconded, and the vote was recorded as passing two to zero.
The item was first added to the agenda at the start of the meeting after staff provided the updated contract language requested last week; the commission also voted to add that amendment to the current agenda before taking up the substantive approval.
Commissioners noted Phase 2 came in under the budgeted amount and said they hope Phase 3 will likewise come in lower than the maximum anticipated fee. Clerk staff will obtain Commissioner Calhoun's signature on the contract form or otherwise document his phone vote per minutes procedure.
Next steps: staff will finalize contract execution and coordinate with Schwab Eaton on scheduling and scope for the Phase 3 rehabilitation work.
