The Wayland Design Review Advisory Board reviewed the 2026 Draft V6 of the Town of Wayland Design Guidelines and recommended visual updates to help developers better understand preferred forms and materials.
Robin Borgestedt and Bill Sterling said the photograph on page 8 should be replaced with an updated image showing recent improvements by Terrain, and Sterling suggested a before-and-after comparison could illustrate how existing buildings can be improved without demolition. Sterling relayed a prior suggestion from Anina Flury that each IDOD include a full page of photographs showing existing conditions alongside examples of new buildings that reflect the town's New England Village style. Board member Tania Person offered to take additional photographs in the Donlan's shopping center; Sterling agreed to continue photographing other districts to expand the guidelines' illustrative material.
Members said more photographic examples would help developers interpret the town's design goals; no formal vote was recorded on the draft at this meeting. The board's comments are intended to guide the next revision of the Design Guidelines ahead of future public hearings and regulatory review.
