Commission approves Cranston Engineering contract to create recreation complex master plan

Director Seymour said the county has expanded recreation facilities over decades and needs a professional master plan to guide 3–5 year expansions and improvements. He noted the recreation complex’s history and current participation trends — for example, soccer program enrollment rose to about 225 participants — to justify professional planning.
Commissioners moved and seconded the proposal and approved the contract by voice vote. The cost will be charged to SPLOST 7 Tier 2, consistent with the tax’s recreation allocation. The county will work with Cranston Engineering on landscape, architectural and engineering services to produce site layouts and phased recommendations for ballfields, concessions and restroom placement.
The master plan is intended to inform capital budgeting and future SPLOST discussions as the current SPLOST term approaches renewal.
