The Hooper Planning Commission approved a conditional-use permit for James Upshaw to build an oversized accessory structure at 4483 South 5400 West, allowing a 2,900-square-foot storage building with a height of 22 feet 4 inches.
Deanna Upshaw, speaking for the applicant, told commissioners the larger size is driven by a leanto and that the structure will be used to store an RV, tractor, flatbed and household items. Staff noted the application shows setbacks are met and that plumbing is not proposed while electricity may be present but the building will not be used as a business. Deanna said access is on the same side as the driveway and that the approach will be concrete "all the way back to the building" and lighting will be motion-activated.
Commissioner White moved to enter the public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Commissioner White then moved to approve the conditional-use permit and Commissioner Denny seconded; the motion carried. Commissioners said the building fit comfortably on the proposed lot and that the dimensions did not exceed what was acceptable to them.
What happens next: Staff will record the approval and update permitting instructions so the applicant can proceed with building permits.
