ARB supports interpretive exhibits and salvage plan for Dunloring Elementary replacement; asks for proffer documentation

The ARB reviewed proposed interpretive exhibits for the new Dunloring Elementary School on June 11, endorsing the concept and asking staff to document that proffers have been met before site permitting.
Project designers said they have reduced panel text, added historic photographs and a QR code linking to the county schools’ history page, and plan to salvage the original school entrance (broken pediment, transom, and surrounding brick) for reinstallation in the new two-story lobby. Designers said the exterior marker will be installed in a grassy area visible from Gallows Road.
Board members praised the reduced copy and the inclusion of photos showing students and historic context. Several members recommended shrinking the QR code on the final panels (and noted that the county school system will need to maintain the linked page). The project team confirmed salvage details and said the elements and brickwork are included in the construction bid documents, and that at least some historic material is being inventoried and stored.
Members asked that the minutes reflect that the proffer-related materials for the exhibit satisfy the board's prior conditions to the extent feasible prior to site permitting. The team said they would provide a photo following installation and that display cases in the lobby will be available for memorabilia if artifacts become available.
The item remained in workshop review for permitting-stage checks, but the board’s response was broadly favorable.
