District briefed on state Clean Buildings rule and ongoing facilities projects

He said compliance timelines vary by building size; larger campuses such as high schools and mid‑high schools are prioritized. Within the district, Cavelero Mid High and Stevens Creek Elementary are meeting targets, while Stevens High School and North Lake Middle School are being monitored for compliance timelines and possible extensions under recent regulatory updates.
The Facilities Department is supporting compliance through benchmarking and energy audits and has implemented lighting upgrades and boiler and HVAC control improvements. Vaughn said these efforts both move buildings toward EUI goals and reduce long‑term operational costs. He also noted that Department of Commerce incentives are available to support upgrades but that financial penalties—including per‑square‑foot fines—can apply for noncompliance.
Board members asked about current compliance data and incentives; Vaughn confirmed the district tracks status for all buildings due for compliance and is actively planning further upgrades. Separately, Dr. Gina Anderson provided an update on capital projects and instructional planning, noting that project sequencing and timelines have been adjusted for efficiency while design principles and program elements—expanded flexible learning spaces and an on‑track timeline for Hillcrest Gym—remain intact.
The board did not take action on Clean Buildings at this meeting but directed staff to continue implementation planning and to report progress as projects and audits advance.
