Berlin planners report progress on code adjustments and comprehensive plan outreach

Commissioners at the June 10, 2026 Berlin Planning Commission meeting said a small working group of town officials, commission members and municipal attorneys recently met to begin drafting code adjustments. The group will circulate recommendations to the full planning commission for review and comment before the items are advanced.
A commissioner said, "we had an initial meeting today with handful of Berlin people... lawyers working on adjusting the codes with a lot of the comments that we've been filing out there," and asked that commissioners be given time to review the recommendations. Staff acknowledged the work and said a broader package will come back to the full commission with an opportunity for members to provide input.
Separately, commissioners discussed the status of the comprehensive plan update. Members said there have been earlier open houses and that another community event is planned at the library; however, one commissioner voiced concern about limited planning commission involvement so far and asked for clearer opportunities to contribute before the consultant finalizes the draft. Staff said they expect further outreach and that materials from recent community meetings will be shared for commission review.
No formal votes were taken on either topic; staff indicated next steps are to circulate the proposed code changes and to schedule additional public outreach for the comprehensive plan.
