Dougherty County board reviews policy changes for instructional programs and unveils strategic-plan dashboard

Administrators presented policy updates and a strategic-plan progress platform during the Dougherty County School System briefing. Dr. Finley introduced Section J (students) for first read and walked the board through the packet showing Georgia School Board Association recommendations alongside Dougherty County School System (DCSS) suggested edits.
Dr. Finley highlighted several Section I (Instructional programs) items being submitted for second read and possible adoption: an updated charter-school policy (IBB); retention of the curriculum-development policy (IC) despite a GSBA recommendation to abolish it in the packet; updated sex-education language under policy IDBA covering family-life and sexual-health instruction; consolidation of IDE1 and IDE2 into a single IDE3 policy covering competitive interscholastic activities for grades 6–12; a new internet-safety policy (GE); grading-system revisions (IHA); and a consolidated graduation-requirements policy (IHF) replacing older dated versions (IHF1–IHF6).
"So I'm bringing to you for consideration for first read" Dr. Finley said about Section J, and he described the folder organization: GSBA recommendations, GSBA policy manual, a combined chart of GSBA and DCSS recommendations and the draft manual showing DCSS edits. On Section I he noted the district had considered GSBA guidance but adjusted to preserve transparency: "we want to be transparent. So we don't want our stakeholders to have to go and search for information everywhere," he said.
Dr. Finley also demonstrated the Assembly platform, explaining how the district’s five strategic priorities (early literacy; academic rigor and relevance; student wellness; investment in human capital; family and community engagement) link to strategic initiatives, KPIs, baselines, targets and actuals and can be surfaced publicly. He described a forthcoming public-facing dashboard to provide easier access to scorecard updates and strategic-plan progress.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the graduation-policy consolidation and the timeline for policy adoption; Dr. Finley confirmed older IHF entries would be replaced by the consolidated IHF policy. The board moved remaining consent items and left the Section I packet on the agenda for possible action in the regular meeting.
