Elementary students showcase new STEAM special; teacher and PTO praised

Students from the elementary school brought examples of work from a newly launched K–6 STEAM special taught by Mrs Hayes and described hands-on projects and skills they are learning.
“I made a vending machine,” said one student. Others described sewing projects, cardboard structures and holiday displays. Students emphasized the class is “hands on” and that they enjoy being creative and working with peers.
Mrs Hayes, the teacher, and district leaders said the program is being built from the ground up and aims to integrate science, technology, engineering, art and math with literacy and writing. The superintendent and other staff praised the class and the PTO for supporting materials and fundraisers that benefit student programs.
The elementary update also included upcoming events: a junior-high “Hanging of the Greens” (date being adjusted), two holiday band concerts on Dec. 6 and Dec. 10, and a Santa shop and author visit scheduled for December.
