At its May 9 meeting the Afton Town Council adopted Ordinance 638, repealing and replacing the town’s cemetery-department code (Title II, Chapter 14) with a 2017 revision intended to provide clarity about cemetery operations and personnel responsibilities.
The ordinance was presented for third reading and adoption; Mayor Joel Neuenschwander called the motion and the council passed the ordinance. The text states the revised provisions are effective as of the third reading and includes a severability clause for parts that might be held invalid. Town Clerk Lisa Hokanson recorded the readings: first (March 14), second (April 11) and third (May 9), with publication scheduled for May 31, 2017.
Council members said the rewrite was intended to simplify operations and clarify the duties of staff assigned to the Cemetery Department. No substantive amendments were recorded at the meeting; the ordinance will be codified as the 2017 revision to Chapter 14 of the town code.
