Cushing selectmen approve snowplow pay increases after executive session

The Cushing selectmen voted on Dec. 12 to raise on-call snowplow pay to $200 per week and to increase snowplow drivers’ hourly pay to $19, with the hourly increase retroactive to Jan. 1, 2017. Selectman Laurie Haynes moved to raise the on-call pay, and Selectman Daniel Staples moved the hourly-wage increase; both motions were seconded and each carried 3-0-1, with Chairman Alton Grover recorded as abstaining.
The motions followed an executive session called during the meeting. Chairman Alton Grover moved to enter executive session, seconded by Selectman Laurie Haynes; the minutes record the session as a personnel matter under 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(A), entered at 6:25 p.m. and closed at 6:47 p.m. The board returned to the regular meeting and took the pay actions.
The wage change will be included in the town budget to be voted at the March town meeting; the minutes state the hourly increase will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2017. The on-call adjustment was made effective Dec. 1, 2016.
