West Lafayette council adopts levy certification and authorizes sidewalk engineering work

At the meeting the Village of West Lafayette council adopted a pair of routine but consequential resolutions: Resolution 2025-39 to accept levies and rates determined by the budget commission and to certify required tax levies to the county auditor, and Resolution 2025-37 authorizing the fiscal officer or village administrator to execute documents necessary for engineering services for sidewalk improvements.

The clerk said Resolution 2025-39 was on its third and final reading and labeled it an emergency; the council moved to adopt and carried the motion by voice vote. Earlier, council members moved and approved Resolution 2025-37 (sidewalk engineering authorization).

Council also approved routine business including the motion to approve the August cash summary and the minutes of the August 25, 2025 regular meeting. Several ordinances and resolutions were read or introduced (including a second reading of Ordinance 2025-44 on purchasing thresholds and a first reading of Ordinance 2025-49 updating the employee handbook). Several grant applications were introduced for first reading, including an Ohio Department of Development advanced energy fund grant and an ODOT TAP grant for bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure.

Next procedural steps: items at second reading will return to council for further consideration; first-reading grants and the employee-handbook amendment will be carried forward for later readings.
